|Our County dispatch center divides radio traffic into 2 channels; one for municipal agencies and the other for our deputies and
troopers. This particular night I was working the municipal channel (my favorite of the two) when one of my rookie officers keys up
requesting an ambulance to a local gas station. Trying to get as much information as possible, I ask if the patient is breathing and
||He replies "10-4, we need an ambulance as soon as possible for the dog." Surprised, I repeat "you need an ambulance for a
dog?" "10-4, he has been injured." About that time, his off-duty Sgt. keys up (thank goodness he was listening) and advises "county, do
not send an ambulance for a dog." We had a nice little laugh about that one.
