True stories of outstanding performance in the line of duty

By Phil S

I have been a dispatcher for 2 years now and pretty much loved every minute of it. Over the past couple of years I have been to different classes for training. It amazes me at what I hear from other angencies dispatchers as to how some of their officers treat them. I can honestly say that in my 2 years I have never had a problem with one of my deputies being hostile on the radio. They all are very calm and patient. Most of them are even very eager to learn what exactly it is we do in the dispatch center. Some will sit down with us and actually ask us to show them how we run license plate checks or criminal histories. I think that is what makes for a good department. Everyone knowing exactly what everyone elses job is. Of course once in awhile they will get a call you can tell they don't want to handle but they know its their job. So I just want to commend all the deputies at the Effingham County Sheriffs Department for treating their dispatchers with respect, patience, and understanding even when times getting really stressful. It makes me proud to be able to go to training classes and say " I don't have problems with any of my officers."

Do you have a story you would like to share about an officer that has done something great for you or for the public? E-mail your story, including your name if you want that mentioned, and I'll post it on this page for everyone to see. Officers, if a dispatcher has done something special for you that you would like to have mentioned, send me an e-mail and I can put that up here, too!
